BIOGAS

Biogas offers a dual solution to Africa’s energy and waste management challenges by transforming organic waste into a valuable, renewable energy resource.

Through anaerobic digestion, organic materials such as agricultural waste, manure, and food scraps are converted into biogas – a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide – that can be used for electricity generation, heating, and as a vehicle fuel. The residual byproduct, digestate, serves as a nutrient-rich fertiliser, enhancing agricultural productivity. Biogas systems are particularly advantageous for industries and municipalities that generate substantial organic waste, as they provide a sustainable method for waste disposal while generating energy.

Biogas production also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, thus contributing to both environmental protection and energy diversification.
